Year Two

Spotlight on Learning

Damascus Community

Dear Families,

Welcome back to an exciting Term 3. We hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful break. It’s been wonderful to see our Year 2 students return with big smiles on their faces, eager to reconnect with their peers. As we begin Term 3, we are excited to continue our learning journey together. This term brings new challenges, opportunities and experiences, and we look forward to supporting each student as they strive to reach their full potential.

This week we have been learning about...

Religious Education: we have revisited the Creation story through our senses and also making the connection of creation through the Parable of the Sower.

Mathematics:  students have commenced learning about multiplicative thinking. Students have been focused on doubling, halving, and repeated addition.

English: students have enjoyed reading the picture book ‘God's Brilliantly Big Creation Story' to unpack different language features.  Students have learnt to use the if, when, before and after conjunctions in their writing. Our decoding and spelling pattern focus has been on learning about Open Syllables.

Integrated Studies: students have learnt about the stages of development for humans such as baby, toddler, child, teenager and adult.

AUSLAN:  students have learnt how an Auslan story creates a picture in the air. Students have also learnt the following signs:

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education: students will learn about Aboriginal Creation.

Mathematics: students will continue learning about multiplicative thinking.  Our focus will be on skip counting, repeated addition, arrays, and bar models.

English: students will unpack different language features using the picture book 'Bundjil'. We will learn how to begin sentences with a subordinating conjunction - although, even though. For our decoding and spelling focus, we will continue to learn about Open Syllables.

Auslan:  students will learn that we sign ‘open’ or ‘put on’ by showing the action of how it is done.  We are learning that action signs that show you how you use, touch or hold an object are called handling signs.
