Year Five

Spotlight on Learning

Bethany Community

Dear Bethany Families,

What an outstanding first week we've had! It's been incredible to see our Year 5 students return with enthusiasm, diving back into routines and reconnecting with peers. As always, we took time to revisit our whole-school expectations—particularly our spotlight on lining up in roll order, and holding that routine consistently.

Our classrooms have been alive with curiosity and collaboration, with students engaging in group activities, discussions, and focused tasks.

Here's to a productive Term 3!

Next week we will begin by learning about...

Religious Education Focus:

We will continue to explore our Term 3 inquiry statement "Fuel For the Journey". We will begin to look more closely at the scripture fromLuke 10 1:24 and make connections with the Eucharist.

English Focus

Students will go on reading 'Tom Appleby Convict Boy' by Jackie French. For grammar students will be identifying relative clauses and relative adverbs. In writing, we will be completing an introduction paragraph for their information report.

Mathematics Focus

We will complete our unit on adding and subtracting fractions with related denominators, focussing on multi step worded problems: real-world contexts like shopping scenarios will support deeper understanding.

Auslan Focus

Next week we will be looking at Unit 6B and they will be learning to communicate their thoughts whilst playing a signed game, to show their understanding or confusion.

Social/ Emotional Learning Focus:

Next week students will be exploring how ideas about gender are created and passed on from one generation to another. And how traditions and clothing, media and advertising, sport and leisure activities, work and business, homes and families and children’s games, toys and stories influence these ideas.

Integrated:

This week we started to look at our health unit, and students completed a pre-assessment to share their prior knowledge. Next week, ee will continue to explore what contributes to our identities and understanding that identities are unique and influenced by different factors.
