Year 10 work experience week:

During week 9 of term 2, year 10 students undertook a week of work experience. Work experience allows our students to experience an industry or field of work before they determine their future pathways. This experience is invaluable and appropriately timed before term 3 subject selections take place.

Students were involved in a wide range of work experience opportunities in the following industries:

  • Animal care/service facilities (veterinary clinics, travelling farms, equestrian centres, doggy day cares, and Riding for the Disabled)

  • Educational facilities (preschools, kindergartens, primary schools, universities, and OSHC facilities)

  • Health care facilities (hospitals, doctors, dentists, aged care, pharmacies, and disability services)

  • Construction, trades, and maintenance (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, bricklaying, and landscaping)

  • Automotive services (mechanics and retail stores)

  • Professional services (conveyancers and lawyers)

  • Hospitality (restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and hotels)

  • Beauty, hair and nails (beauty bars and hairdressers)

  • Airline and air travel logistics (Adelaide Airport, Qantas and Aldinga Airfield)

  • Retail and supermarkets (Drakes, Foodland, Big W, Mitre 10, and Woolworths)

  • Entertainment and recreation (AIE, basketball academies, and Taekwondo academies)

  • Government and community services (Erin Thompson MP, local libraries, and post offices)

  • …and many more!

Feedback from workplaces was overwhelmingly positive and many students had incredible stories to share from their week of Work Experience. Some students have obtained part time or casual work from their placement, and others have made valuable connections in our community.

Congratulations to all year 10 students involved! We are very proud of your efforts and the way in which you conducted yourselves in our community. Furthermore, we extend a huge thank you to all involved with planning, hosting, and supervising students while on work experience.

Stage 1 Introduction to Hospitality: Integrated Learning students

Our Stage 1 Introduction to Hospitality: Integrated Learning students provided exceptional catering for the Career Expo held on Thursday 24 July. Their culinary skills were on full display, impressing both attendees and stallholders alike.

The students prepared a variety of delicious canapes, showcasing their creativity and expertise in food preparation. Their efforts not only ensured that everyone was well-fed but also added a touch of hospitality and warmth to the event.

This experience provided our students with a valuable opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world setting, enhancing their understanding of the food industry and event management. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and professionalism.

2025 snow trip – Mount Hotham

During term 2, week 10, 24 excited students and three brave staff members swapped laptops and workbooks for skis and snowboards as they headed to Mount Hotham for a five day school snow trip filled with growth, resilience, laughter, and unforgettable alpine moments.

From the moment we arrived, Mount Hotham delivered picturesque views and snowy conditions. For many students, this was their first experience in a snow environment — and they embraced it with enthusiasm. Each day included professional ski and snowboard lessons tailored to all experience levels, and it was amazing to see students move from nervous beginners to confident, capable snow-goers in just a few days. In no time at all students had confident turns, big smiles, and of course a few gentle tumbles.

Each day brought a variety of conditions, with some sunshine, a little bit of rain, and the highlight for many was the snowfall. Days were filled with non-stop action, laughter and learning. Students traversed the mountain in groups to discover exciting runs that challenged them to refine their skills. Evenings were a chance to relax and recharge with some students building snowmen and having snowball fights, to toasty hot chocolates and games in front of the fire. For many students, a highlight was night riding and the silent disco at the Big D.

Many students really stepped outside their comfort zones, pushing themselves to better their skills and even attempt the harder runs which meant there were many wonderful stories to be shared at mealtimes. Staff were incredibly proud of how students conducted themselves — showing teamwork, respect, and courage as they tackled new physical challenges. Whether they were carving down the slopes, braving a tricky lift ride, or helping a friend back to their feet, every student grew in confidence and independence.

Students returned not just with rosy cheeks and tired legs — but with greater independence, new friendships, a real sense of achievement and memories that will last a lifetime. Until next year, Mount Hotham — you have been epic.

Stage 1 Tourism

On Thursday 24 July, the Stage 1 Tourism class visited Glenelg to collect evidence for their first summative task. They were required to demonstrate an understanding of how the tourism industry works in a real-world situation.

Students took photographs of businesses in each of the main tourism sectors of accommodation, transport, food and hospitality, attractions, and services.

They also gathered information about which segments of the tourism market visit Glenelg. Once this was established, the students suggested alternative attractions or events that would entice new visitors to the area.
