Wellbeing highlight: Mindfulness
What is mindfulness? Mindfulness is a tool used to keep people grounded in the present reality. It is used for times when a person can be overwhelmed, stressed, over thinking or when experiencing anxiety. Mindfulness is an easy and simple tool, it is the act of taking yourself out of a stressful bubble and placing yourself back in the present. Mindfulness can be used to help students enjoy the present moment, this can be done anywhere, indoors or outdoors.
Try these techniques out.
The 5 senses.
Try asking your family to find 5 things around them at the moment.
- Something you can see
- Something you can touch
- something you can hear
- Something you can smell
- Something you can taste.
Another fun activity is using the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 method.
5 Things you can see
4 Things you can touch
3 Things you can hear
2 Things you can smell
1 Thing you can taste.
If these aren't as easy to find in the time you are using this tool in, you can also try the colours method. Find as many things around you that match a certain colour.
Examples include:
Find 3 pink items and 3 blue items.
Find 1 item for the whole rainbow.
Find 5 items of your favourite colour.
Mindfulness isn't just a great way to slow down a stressful time but also to enjoy the time we are in and experience life’s small moments too. Happy hunting.
