School Council

School Council update 

Dear WSPS community,

Welcome back to term three. My name is Laura Fisher. Many of you will already know me as a teacher in grade one and some will know me as a parent to Lily in grade five and Liam in grade three. Also, I am a member of No Hat No Play, Wales Street’s very own parent band and just in case you missed it we WON the Northside Battle of the Bands on night one The Croxton Hotel.. I’m sure Wales Street Social will shortly provide an exciting update on the the scholarship that we won so watch out for their notification! Spoiler - we get to rock out in the finals at the Corner Hotel in Richmond on September the 18th.

This is my second year as a staff member on our school council. As an active member of the Wales Street community I am passionate to help WSPS thrive. I relish in the opportunity to be involved in the community while we continue our practice as a school that is on a journey of change through embedding explicit teaching and learning. 

At the June meeting Michael, the CEO of Their Care, joined school council to discuss operations for the Outside School Hours Care facility at WSPS. This included robust discussion on benefits to our students, attracting the highest-quality educators to support our children’s learning, and the programs cost structure in light of new policies introduced by the Federal Government.

Luisa presented the principal’s report on behalf of Robyn noting that the school’s four-year strategic plan should be finalised by the end of 2025. A new railing will be added to our nature play area to improve safety and will be closed while work is carried out. The Wales Street Social committee continue to deliver an exciting social program. The disco was a huge success and plans are underway for trivia and school production fundraising.
