Year 6 Canberra Camp

Our recent Year 6 camp to Canberra was a fantastic success! Over three action-packed days, students had the opportunity to explore our nation’s capital, with highlights including visits to Parliament House, the Arboretum, Questacon, and the Electoral Education Centre.

The trip provided rich, real-world connections to our learning in Civics and Citizenship, deepening students' understanding of Australian democracy and government.

A huge thank you to the dedicated staff who attended and supported the students throughout the experience. Your enthusiasm, care, and organisation helped make this a memorable and meaningful journey for all involved.

Well done to our Year 6 students for their outstanding behaviour and curiosity—you made us proud!

“For me, the Canberra camp was like a full loop of our history education in class. It was an opportunity for me and my group to go see iconic buildings and significant sites that we learnt about during class. There was also Questacon and the deep space network. Questacon showed us all about science and unique things that it could do. The Deep Space network showed us scientific history and hints to life on planets.”

Harrison Toomeh

“Camp was a good experience and both Parliament houses were better than expected. We got to roleplay and look at the Senate and House of Representatives. Questaicon and Bowling was one of the best and most fun of the places we went. The slide was the best thing and people had lots of energy for bowling. The AIS was fun experiencing simulations of sports that is like an arcade but only the fun things. Camp was good and better than I thought.” Dominic Tan

“While we were in Canberra, the best part for me was our visit to Questacon because we had a lot ofa science experiments to interact with. My most favorite part was the earthquake house that simulated a 5.8 magnitude earthquake. I also loved how we roll played the house of representatives, especially when my government passed the Protection for Animals in Zoo’s bill.” Jacob Tuhmeh

“Year S6ix camp was amazing. From the buses to the timetable to the food, everything was well planned out and high quality. All the sites we went to were very fun and it helped us to learn many different things such as; what happens in the deep space facility to getting to role play as the Senate in the government. Camp was a very exiting experience, and would do it all again.”

“The experiences I had at camp were unforgettable from getting on the bus and arriving in Canberra, to getting back to school. This trip taught me lots of things such as science (things in Space like Mars and stars) and the history of how laws were made. But one of the best things about camp was sharing these memories with my friends and spending time with them.” Thomas Jabbour

“I found camp really interesting. It was wonderful to hang out with my friends and get to know them better. I also learnt a lot, especially about government and science. I wish we could also have visited the War Memorial and The Mint. It was an historic time to be there just a few weeks before an election.” Zion Bourke
