Holy Cross Happenings

ANZAC Day

It was a privilege to stand alongside our Holy Cross students and families at the ANZAC Day Commemorations in Gisborne this morning. Nearly 30 students represented our school with reverence and respect, a true reflection of our commitment to solidarity and community.

This spirit was also beautifully shown in our whole-school service, led by our Grade 4 students on Thursday, who also went to the effort of explicitly teaching each class how to honour the occasion with silence, stillness, and respect.

Thank you to all the families who joined us in commemorating this important day as we continue to pray for peace.

Peace is not a product that is bought; it is built day by day with justice, forgiveness, and love.” (Pope Francis, 20th April 2025)

District Cross Country at Dixon Field

What a fantastic day it was at the District Cross Country held at Dixon Field yesterday. A team of 37 Year 3 to Year 6 students proudly represented Holy Cross, embracing the challenge of the competition.

Although the morning was quite windy, the weather soon became bright and sunny by lunchtime. Throughout the day our students displayed perseverance as they navigated the course. It was also impressive to see them supporting one another, cheering from the sidelines and encouraging their peers as they crossed the finish line.

We are very proud of every student who took part. Whether it was their first time competing or one of many, their efforts and sportsmanship were commendable.

Special Congratulations

A special congratulations goes to the following students who finished in the top ten of their age group and have qualified to represent Holy Cross at the Division Cross Country:

  • Jameson Howley – 1st place
  • Adrian Avenell – 7th place
  • James Dwyer – 6th place
  • Jack Power – 7th place
  • Finnan Howley – 1st place
  • Beckham Bullen – 9th place

We wish these students all the best as they prepare for the next event.

A special thank you to Casey, Jodie, Maryanne and Kath P for organising and supporting the event. We are also appreciative of all the parents who came along today to cheer on Holy Cross.

Welcome Back!

A warm welcome back to all our wonderful Holy Cross students, and, in true Holy Cross style, that welcome extended to our four-legged friends as well!

It may have been a short week, with Easter Monday and ANZAC Day giving us a three-day start, but we still managed to fit a lot into the first week of Term 2!

We kicked things off by welcoming our new Principal, and even a new puppy! Poppy brought along her Dalmatian, Doug, who was a big hit on day one.

It’s always lovely to see friends reconnect after the break. While there can be a few nerves on the first day back, they quickly disappear once the games begin. Children were straight into familiar fun, with moments like Noah teaching Sadie how to handball his footy.

Our Preps were especially excited to finally play on the oval this term, after spending Term 1 learning their way around the school with the help of their Year 6 buddies. We saw a lot of little legs pedalling around the track, no doubt leading to some very sound sleepers that night!

Inside and out, we’ve seen students reconnecting, in class, at lunchtime clubs, and during quiet play. Whether it was working together on a class task or teaming up on a jigsaw puzzle, the teamwork and shared learning were a joy to watch.
