Foundation (Prep)

Welcome to Term 2!

I hope everyone enjoyed the school holidays. The students have returned refreshed and slipped back into their school routine comfortably. We are ready to take off with our learning this term!

English

We have introduced two new letters, Fifi Flamingo /f/ and Rosie Rabbit /r/. Each day we review the letters we have learnt so far (m, s, t, a, p, i, f and r) and practise blending combinations of the letters to build words (map, fit, rat, sip, etc). The students also do daily handwriting practice and participate in small group work to develop their reading skills.

Maths

In Week 1, we completed our unit on 2D shapes. The students created pictures of rocket ships using different shapes and then painted them with food dye to give an interesting effect. These are on display in our classroom.

This week we started a unit on Patterns. Students have explored with Unifix cubes to create their own patterns. We have talked about the core of the pattern and practised identifying the core that repeats over and over. We have also made patterns with our hands and bodies. The children worked with a partner to make up their own patterns and we had fun jumping, twirling and clapping.

Cross Country

Congratulations Prep C on your participation in your first cross country day. We walked responsibly across to the oval and then had fun hula-hooping and skipping while we cheered on the older students running past. The big finale was our run around the oval with our buddies. Mr Webber was impressed! He couldn't believe how many of you could run that far and that fast. Well done everyone!

Thank you very much to all of the families who came to visit our classroom on our Family Morning. The students were proud to share their work and enjoyed your company in the classroom.

Have a nice weekend,

Mrs Callaway
