Harmony Day Celebrations

All students are allocated to a House group when they start at Berwick College and remain in the same House throughout their six years at the school. The House system provides another level of connection to the school and fellow students.

Berwick College students named the Houses after Australians who have served and made a significant contribution to the Australian community and the colours were chosen from Australian gemstones.

Through these Houses, students can participate in a range of different activities and House events. During Terms 1 and 2, students participate in the three big House events – the annual Swimming Carnival, Athletic Carnival and Cross-Country. Every event that the student participates in earns points for their House. These points are tallied at the end of the year to determine the House winner at every year level.

Students are encouraged to participate in as many House events as possible to foster team spirit and to help their House succeed. The House Activity days are also an opportunity to promote school values and a positive school environment, to raise funds for a charitable cause or a school improvement project.

Monash & Chisholm - Harmony Day Extravaganza

Berwick College came alive with colour, rhythm, and flavour as students and staff came together to celebrate Harmony Day—a day dedicated to inclusivity, cultural respect, and belonging for all.

The event was a feast for the senses, with students enjoying a sausage sizzle and delicious pizzas, representing the shared joy of food across different cultures. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, students took part in an African drumming session, where the rhythmic beats symbolised unity and connection. A highlight of the day was the spectacular sight of a Chinese Lion roaming the school, bringing good luck and prosperity while showcasing a centuries-old tradition.

Harmony Day, held on March 21st, is a significant celebration in Australia, promoting the message that "Everyone Belongs". It recognises the diverse cultural backgrounds that enrich our communities and encourages respect and inclusivity.

The event at Berwick College was a true reflection of this spirit, bringing students together to embrace and appreciate the many cultures that make up our school. A big thank you to everyone who participated and made the day a success!
