Year 12 – Careers Sessions

All year 12 students have completed their Career Action Plan – I Apply. Any student who did not complete a Career Action Plan please see Mrs Crawley in C3s.  During term 2, Mrs Crawley will be presenting to the students during Home Group to discuss how the application process in 2025 works for 2026 post-secondary pathways.  This includes university, TAFE, apprenticeships, police force, defence force and any other identified pathways.

Year 11 – Careers Session

Year 11 students have completed their Career Action Plan – I Decide. Any student who did not complete a Career Action Plan please see Ms Lentowicz in C3s.  During this year, students are beginning to decide which pathway they would like to follow and are researching pre-requisite requirements such as subjects, folios, auditions and interviews etc.

Year 10 – Careers Session

Year 10 students will commence their Career Action Plan – I Plan, during Term 2.  More information will follow shortly.

Year 9 2025 – Careers Session and Morrisby Profiling

Year 9 students completed their Morrisby Profile in the Leisure Centre as a cohort on Thursday 27/3 during periods 1 to 3.  During this time, students completed a range of multiple-choice questionnaires based on their strengths and ambitions.  Each child now has a report detailing the findings, providing information about suggested careers, and subjects related to their  career choice to support them with ideas for course counselling. In addition, an opportunity for a one-on-one interview will be available later in the year, where students will be able to have their profile unpacked and explained to them in detail.  If your child did not complete their Morrisby Profile, Mrs McKeon will be in touch during Term 2 to arrange a convenient date/time for this to take place. Congratulations to the Year 9 students who worked so efficiently and quietly during this session.

Year 8 – Careers Sessions

Year 8 Careers counselling sessions have now concluded.  Students have completed a Career Action Plan – I Explore in a class setting with Mrs Duhau. They have developed a profile of themselves, exploring their interests, values and skills. Students have investigated learning styles and identified what makes learning easier for them. The students have reflected on their Year 7 Career Action Plan identifying last year’s achievements. Thereafter, each child has set new goals and a plan for year 8 and begun to identify careers related to their interests and skills using a range of Career resources.  In conjunction with their Career Action Plan, students have brainstormed how to make a positive difference during this year, linking in with the year level theme.

Years 7– Careers Sessions

Year 7 Careers counselling sessions (developing a Career Action Plan – I Discover) will commence during Term 2.  Please watch this space for further information.

Berwick College Careers Expo & National Careers Week – Mon 12/5 – Fri 16/5.

Berwick College will be holding their annual Career Expo in the Leisure Centre on Monday 12th May, 2025 during National Careers Week.  All students in years 9 to 12 will participate in the Expo at specific times throughout the day.  The school is proud to say that most universities, TAFE institutes, Police Force and Defence Force are in attendance, together with a wide range of apprenticeship and private providers that are specialty related (such as Beauty, Dance, Sport, Media, Entertainment and Fashion).  Students in years 7 and 8 will participate in a range of career activities during this time to celebrate the importance of Careers Education in schools that provide support and guidance for our students, building a connection between learning and pathways at school, building bridges to empower career choices.  More information will follow for these events early Term 2.

VET

All 242 senior students in years 10 to 12 who have selected a TAFE (VET) course as part of their senior school program have now settled into their course for 2025.  Please be aware if your child is going to be absent from their VET course, a parent/carer must contact the institute/venue/school to advise of the absence, including at Berwick College.  Whilst being absent from class is sometimes unavoidable, please keep in mind these Certificate courses have units within  the program that are delivered throughout the year and in most cases, cannot be re-addressed at a later stage due to strict timelines with VET delivery and/or the need to access particular materials for certain units. In addition a reminder, that all students must wear full school uniform to their VET course regardless of the venue, other than those that are required to wear PPE.  No phones or headphones are permitted at any VET course venue.

The Certificate III in Business students at Berwick College have been busy working through a range of units during Term 1.  One unit the students were particularly engaged in was, "Apply Critical Thinking Skills in the Workplace”.  The students were required to work in small groups and use a range of critical thinking skills that could be applied in the workplace to support them design and create a record label cover.  The results were sensational!

If your child is in year 9 and interested in undertaking a VET course for 2026 as part of their senior year’s educational program (10, 11 or 12) and would like information about what VET in schools is and the courses available, please ask them to visit the Careers & VET office located in C block (C3s) to make an appointment.
