'Prepare today, succeed tomorrow'
On Wednesday, the 26th of March, our year 10 students participated in their second Pastoral Care session for the term. The session started with important housekeeping reminders that are crucial for maintaining an effective learning environment so that students can get the most out of their time at school. Some of these reminders include:
Wearing the correct sport or academic uniform each day.
Arriving at all classes on time, including home group. Students who are five minutes late for each session cumulatively miss over half a period of learning per day!
Being respectful in the yard and placing rubbish in the bin. This helps us keep our environment clean and welcoming.
A Focus on Work Experience
The interactive part of a session saw the year 10 cohort split up into class groups to get involved in the group activities. With the help of staff, students were tasked with allocating team roles (leaders, coaches, timekeepers, etc.) to set the tone for teamwork and communication during the session.
The main goal: to support students in thinking about their transferable skills and how these could link to a range of career pathways and job types.
Students brainstormed as many important job skills as they could.
Then it was time for students to allocate a range of job cards into the category they thought they best fit into.
Lastly, students were asked to match up a range of skill cards to the various jobs which stirred up plenty of healthy debates and conversations around how skills can be important for more than one job!
Students left the session with a list of their top five skills and a minimum of three job types that fit their skill set and their interests. A great starting point for their research into Work Experience Placement. Overall, the student participation was fantastic and we can't wait to run more fun sessions with our cohort!
Students should be ringing, emailing or visiting workplaces they would be interested in completing their Term 3 work experience. More information will be coming to families early in Term 2, including the official forms to fill out.
Parent Teacher interviews
It was great to see so many family members at the Parent Teacher Conferences this week. These meetings allow staff to communicate student progress in the classroom. They are also a fantastic opportunity for students to have their voice heard, for teachers to continue to build rapport, aligning their work with the individual goals and interests of each student.
We encourage families to contact the year 10 team if you have any questions and we wish all our students a restful and enjoyable break.
