Principal Report

Leading a school culture of high expectations and respectful relationships

As we come to the end of a term, that has been full of co-curricular activities and a huge range of learning opportunities and assessments, I would like to take the time to thank those who have committed so much to make it all happen.

Thank you to the amazing staff of Berwick College for everything they have done to make this a vibrant term. Both the teaching staff and the education support staff have given their time and of themselves to ensure that so many of our students have been able to connect to their learning and the school community.

Through classrooms, sport, music and performance, students have represented Berwick College and have engaged in learning with passion. I am so proud to see this learning showcased in our end of term newsletter and I hope in reading it, you get a small sense of the rich experience in being at this school.

I would also like to thank the parents and carers who have supported our school throughout Term 1. Berwick College inducted a new school council this term.  The school is fortunate to have so many parent and community members prepared to dedicate their time and expertise to the oversight of school governance. There is no doubt that the expertise and time provided by the members allows the school leadership to do what they know best - leading teaching and learning. I am very much looking forward to working with them this year.

Thank you to every parent and carer who attended the parent teacher conferences. These were well attended, and it is an invaluable opportunity for school staff to meet with parents and strengthen the learning partnership with home.

Thank you also to every parent who has come into school to meet with staff this term, either to discuss learning behaviours or to talk about positive approaches; we thank you for engaging with the education of our students, knowing that with strong partnerships, the best outcomes occur.

Finally, I thank the students at Berwick College for the enthusiasm and positivity with which they have moved into the horizontal structure, working in their year levels this year. At the beginning of the year, I spoke to all students and told them that in 2025, we have high expectations of them. We expect students to work hard. We expect them to reach their potential, to engage positively and to provide opportunities for all others to engage. They have done so, and they have done so with positive attitudes. Whenever I have felt a little distracted with the busyness of my day, I walk outside and there are students outside who tell me a little about their day at school. The students at Berwick College are uplifting.

I wish students, parents, carers and staff all the very best for a wonderful break. Term 2 commences on Tuesday, 22nd April, and I look forward to seeing everyone rested and refreshed for learning in Term 2.
