Vocation Education

and Training

This year the VET KLA will focus on student engagement and feedback to form our newsletter with each term focusing on a different subject area.

This Term, students have enjoyed their practical hands-on learning in the Manufacturing and Engineering course.

VET, or Vocation Education and Training is a KLA that allows students to study through practical experiences, hands-on learning and real-world experiences while undertaking a Nationally recognised certificate in their subject. VET is dual-accredited, providing students with recognition towards both their school qualification and a nationally recognised VET qualification.

Students who are enrolled in this course will gain a Certificate 1 in Engineering and a Statement of Attainment Certificate 2 in Engineering Pathways. These qualifications define entry-level skills and knowledge to assist workers entering employment as engineering/manufacturing employees within the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries.

Students will work on lathes and milling machines as well as learn about hand and power tools, precision measuring tools, safety measures in the industry and communication skills. Students will have the opportunity to learn welding skills using Manual Metal Arc Welding and Gas Metal Arc Welding.

Students have reflected on what they have enjoyed so far:

Jesse Ross, Year 12: “This course has taught me valuable life skills which I will carry on into the workforce”.

David King, Year 11: “I’ve enjoyed doing practical and hands on things with a range of other students. Knowing that I can use these qualifications anywhere is a real winner for my future.”

Tom Wichman, Year 11: “I really enjoy being hands on and in the workshop rather than sitting in a classroom, VET really caters to my learning style.”

Charlie O’Reilly, Year 11: “I have enjoyed the hands on work and being able to be out in the workshop. I’ve enjoyed learning different skills that I will be able to use in my trade.”

Lachlan Unwin, Year 12: “I have learnt how to use certain tools and make certain projects, multi-tasking, using my skills to make some quality projects.”

Nick Woods, Year 12: “I have really enjoyed building my toolbox project, I learnt alot from completing the project and these are skills that I have developed at a fast pace. These are skills and projects which I can use for life.”
