Drama

YEAR 10
Year 10 Drama have had a wonderful start to the year, studying Commedia Dell’arte as a theatre style, a very comedy-based form of Drama. Students experimented with Slapstick comedy, Farce and Irony in the early stages of the Term, as well as experimenting with Lazzi and Maskwork as dramatic conventions for performance. Students explored these ideas experientially, drawing heavily on practical activities to help convey meaning through a mimed story. After drawing upon props, costumes and sounds for their group performances, Year 10 Drama were able to present some very engaging and hilarious scenes for their Term 1 Assignment. Special thank you to the Year 10 class for volunteering at our Mater Dei Catholic College Open Night earlier this Term.
YEAR 12
Year 12 Drama students have been working incredibly hard this term as they continue to step through their HSC year. Throughout this term, HSC Drama students have been developing their knowledge around theatre practitioners ‘Jacques Lecoq’ and ‘Jerzy Grotowski’, applying these practitioner’s techniques and methods into a group performance for their Term 1 Assignment. Working collaboratively, students have come together to bring some really creative ideas to life, and were fortunate to perform onstage for a small school audience. In addition to their theoretical study, students have been diligently developing their HSC individual projects, where they are able to show off their strengths in a component of Performing Arts, such as Set Design, Lighting Design and Performance. It’s been a great term of creativity, and students are looking forward to presenting their hard work a little bit later in the school year.
