Principal's Message

Riverwalk Primary School is a child safe community.

We acknowledge the Wathaurong People, the Traditional Owners of the land on which we teach and learn, and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

Wominjeka!

Dear Families,

Welcome Back to Term 2!

Thank you for making me feel so welcome in your community. Having spent the past three weeks visiting classrooms, meeting with parents and chatting to students, I can see what an amazing school Riverwalk is.

Riverwalk Primary School remains committed to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all students, staff and members of our community. We recognise the importance of the partnership between our school and parents and carers to support student learning, engagement and wellbeing.

Thank you to the families who attended our first whole school assembly of Term 2. The School Captains did an amazing job! At the Whole School Assembly we announced the appointment of two additional Acting Assistant Principals for Term 2 during Barry Devlin's absence. Congratulations to Jessica Harris and Shannon Harmer! We look forward to working with you in these roles.

This week the School Council have met with the Department of Education to commence the process of appointing a substantive Principal for Riverwalk Primary School from Term 3. I will keep you posted throughout this process as the position is advertised.

Newsletter Feedback

53% of families in the Riverwalk community have language backgrounds other than English. Within our diverse community we have over 54 languages. To support with communication in multiple languages across the Riverwalk community, we have implemented a new newsletter platform called iNewsletter. Simply select your language from the drop down menu at the bottom of the page.

For Translation Services please see the last page of this newsletter.

As a parent, I understand that communication from school can be extensive. iNewsletter will also aim to reduce to amount of Compass News items which families receive from the school. iNewsletter can also have embedded photos, videos and website links to give parents and carers a greater insight into your child's learning at school.

We want your feedback. Please let us know what you think of the new Riverwalk News! We will trial this new newsletter format for Term 2 and review following community feedback.

Annual Report to the School Community

The 2024 Annual Report to the School Community which was presented at the 2025 Public Reporting Meeting (AGM) has now passed quality assurance from the Department. The Annual Report provides Principals and School Councils with an opportunity to share the year’s achievements and progress with the school community. This includes reflecting on the school’s performance and explaining the impact of school improvement efforts on student outcomes.

The preparation and publication of an Annual Report is a legislative and regulatory requirement for all schools under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic)Ministerial Order 1280 and the National Education Agreement 2008. It reflects the Department of Education's commitment to building pride and confidence in our government schools and highlights the importance of transparent communication about school performance with our school communities. Annual Reports are published on the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) State Register following being attested by the School Council President and Principal.

Attitudes to School Survey (ATOS)

The ATOS is a voluntary student survey offered by the Department of Education every year to help schools and the department understand students' experiences of school. We will ask your child about their thoughts and feelings about their school, their learning, relationships with other students, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general. For more information about the survey please click on the link below:

Bike Storage

Due to the growing population of students who attend Riverwalk Primary School, there are an increasing number of students who now ride to school. This means that the Bike Shed can be crowded if the bikes and scooters are not parked properly.

We remind our students to:

  • always wear a helmet (fine of between $227 up to $925)
  • always have proper control and ride responsibly
  • use a warning (e.g. bell, horn, or verbal) to avert danger
  • follow traffic rules (including waiting for the Lollypop Crossing Supervisor)
  • give way to pedestrians where appropriate
  • have front and rear lights if riding at night
  • do not use your mobile phone
  • do not carry a passenger (dinking)

Please find below public advice for cyclists:

Mother's Day

This Sunday is a day where we acknowledge and thank our mums or special person for everything they do. I wish all mums in our community a very Happy Mother’s Day for Sunday. I hope you all get spoilt! Thank you for those who visited our Mother’s Day stall. Thank you to everyone who helped run the stall this year.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.
