Deputy Principal Staff and Students Report

Child Safety
Last week at our fortnightly Child Safety Team Meeting we were joined by six parents and some students from the Student Action Team. During the meeting we discussed bullying. Our starting point was that bullying occurs at all schools. At Nazareth we desire to do all we can to try and get rid of bullying and support the wellbeing of all students. There was discussion amongst students and parents around what have they heard or seen in relation to bullying at Nazareth? Where does it happen? How often? Is online bullying a problem? We then moved most importantly to discuss what can students, staff and parents do improve the situation?
It was a great blessing to have students and parents sharing together. It was a very positive meeting and one which will result in some actions to improve Nazareth College. Parents talked about communication with their child, asking questions, being connected and hence being aware of what they were facing and dealing with at school so they are able to support their child, as well as to know to contact the school when it is appropriate. Students discussed about stepping in early when there is inappropriate behaviour and getting students to lead the discussion at House Assemblies around bullying, encouraging students to speak out.
There was also discussion about the school needing to create a platform for students to be able to report incidents of bullying in a more user friendly and potentially anonymous way. We discussed the idea of having the Student Action Team work to prepare the process for reporting bullying online and some slogans, as well as information to go out to all students about bullying. As you can see it was a very positive meeting and I think we will continue to unpack the great sharing and work on the points raised. Next term there will be another open meeting of the Child Safety Team and we look forward to it.
A very big thank you to all the parents who attended, the students who attended and the parents who emailed me with a desire to attend but their work/life circumstances did not allow them to. We were touched by the great support, the fantastic people and the positive sharing and interactions.
Freeway Drop Off
We have had members of the public contacting us concerned about some of our students getting out of cars while on the freeway off ramp at the rear of the school, on Police Road. This is not safe for our students. We remind parents to please refrain from letting your child out of the car whilst on the freeway off ramp at Police Road, near the back entrance gate to the College.
Looking Ahead
It is incredible to think that the first term of 2025 is over. It has been a great term and we have been touched by the fantastic students we are so blessed to have in our community. Thank you to everyone for all your support and great efforts this term.
We hope and pray all students and their families have a blessed Easter and a great break. May the grace of Our Lord’s resurrection and His deep love for you fill your heart and family this Easter and draw you more deeply into His Sacred Heart.
A reminder as we look ahead that students finish classes and Term 1, 2025 on Tuesday 3 April at 1.35pm due to Student Progress Meetings.
A reminder that Term 2, 2025 and classes start on Tuesday 22 April 2025 with a Day 7 timetable.
The first Friday of Term 2, 2025 is ANZAC Day, Friday 25 April 2025, which is a Public Holiday.
Enjoy the break and we look forward to working together in Term 2, 2025.
A reminder to students that the winter uniform is expected from the first day of Term 2, 2025, students need to wear their College blazer to and from school.
God Bless.
