Careers News

Year 10 Careers

Two key features of the Year 10 program in Term 1 were acknowledging personal strengths and interests as a way to explore future careers and building skills in applying for work experience. Students have been developing Resumes in preparation for the workforce, using work experience as a target audience. Key take aways for students included:

  • Everyone has different strengths and likes so no one path is right for everyone
  • AI are checking resumes now so the tiniest mistake will remove you from a maybe pile and put you in the no pile – proof reading matters
  • Resumes are the first introduction so it’s important to celebrate your achievements, personal qualities, and skills
  • Volunteering at Nazareth counts as experience so the more involved in school activities, the better your resume will look as well as being a great Nazarene!

Year 11

Students have been taken through the many options post-secondary school and the advantages of each. It has given students an opportunity to reflect on what is important to them and start to form an idea of how to reach their future goals. Students were given a list of resources that will help them through the next stage which is all available through the College Careers Website.

Year 12

Students were introduced to VTAC Course search to help students understand how to find courses of interest, what prerequisites certain courses have and the resources available to them to navigate the open days, careers expos and other resources. SEAS was introduced to help students understand that there is a scheme to help. A short video explaining SEAS - https://youtu.be/Zh95Hvm2b5g

Our key message to students:

  • Research options
  • Talk to people
  • Go to Open Days
  • GO to Career Expos
  • Keep an open mind
  • Be true to yourself

April Break Activities and Tertiary Experiences

Many post-secondary school institutions offer activities during school holidays to give students an opportunity to experience tertiary life firsthand. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Year 10 and 1s  to research institutions before the mayhem of Year 12 starts. It gives Year 12s an opportunity to visit their preferred tertiary institution if they are choosing that pathway and confirm it’s the right place for them. Opportunities can be found on the College Careers Website on the message board.

VET

Our VCE-VM LSO, Naomi, inducted all new students to VET with a presentation that went over the learning platforms for the different VET providers. We are fortunate to have many LSOs that support some of our VET students. Here is a little VET expectations reminder to help all  our VET students (and parents).
