Celebrating Learning
The term has flown by, and we find ourselves sharing holiday plans and anticipating the upcoming Autumn holidays. The mornings are cooler, the sky immense and blue, and F/1 friendships continue to develop.
PBL (play-based learning):
New loose parts have arrived! Loose parts are an integral part of students' play. Parts can have unexpected shapes, and the value or purpose of the loose part is decided by students and how they become part of their play.
We continue to focus on inclusion by discussing bravery and the importance of being brave and the different ways to be brave.
Maths:
In number this week, we have been building to 10 and 20. With students rolling, building, and naming. E.g., “I have 8 and I need 2 more to make 10” or “I have 11 and I need 9 more to make 20”. We have also been learning some traditional indigenous games that we have been using as maths warm up. The favourite has been a children’s instructive game of throwing skill called Kolap. They collect and represent and record data and discuss their findings.
Reading:
Small reading groups and CVC and reading games have been introduced to our phonics sessions. Students now have enough consonant, and vowel sounds to decode readers. Students have been focussing on tracking and re-reading for improved fluency and meaning.
In our reading groups over the past two weeks, we have been focussing on the following sounds:

Writing/Speaking and listening:
Throughout the term, some students have chosen to show and share to the class. This might be an exciting holiday, a discovered treasure, or a new puppy! Students are encouraged to practise skills as both presenter and audience. Such as turn taking, listening, and questioning. In Writing, we have looked at sentence starters and punctuation.
Happy Holidays!
Warmly,
Juliette and Jess
