Exciting start to the term

In the past few weeks the 3/4s have kept busy with lots of exciting and new events (Education week, Concert dance rehearsals, . Despite all the changes to our regular schedule, the 3/4s have remained determined and engaged with all their learning. Great work!

Reading

The 3/4s have continued reading through our new text Yirra and her deadly dog Demon. Students have practiced different skills while reading such as visualising, creating character maps and summarising short passages. Additionally, we have explored the History of the Aboriginal Flag and collected research to assist with our writing.

Writing

In writing, Students have begun planning single paragraph outlines each week in preparation for writing an information piece on the History of the Aboriginal Flag. In their SPO’s, students have been focusing on including a topic sentence and around 3 supporting details which they then have transformed into a complete paragraph. Students are taking the time to plan each paragraph to prepare for publishing their work in the upcoming weeks.

Maths

We’ve had a large focus this term on learning different addition and subtraction strategies. The 3/4s have practiced using the jump, split and vertical strategies to assist them in solving addition and subtraction problems. This week, we have started experimenting with collecting and representing data. Students have been creating tally tables and bar graphs to represent different collections of data.

Discovery

Our main focus in Discovery this Term has been identifying the difference between Climate and Weather. Students have been researching different types of climate and different climate areas in the world. The 3/4s have also learnt about different types of extreme weather and researched what causes extreme weather to occur. Students have been able to recognise different seasons in the world, for example Indigenous seasons and El Nino and La Nina.

Education Open Day

The 3/4s were thrilled to welcome family into their classrooms and celebrate their cultures. It was amazing to see the diversity within each classroom and have the opportunity to celebrate our different cultures. Thank you to everyone who attended and showed support for Education Week.

Dance Rehearsals

This term, students have been gearing up for their concert performances. The 3/4s voted for the songs they wanted to perform for this year's concert. The winning songs were I like to move it from Madagascar, Rotten to the Core from Descendants, and How bad can I be? from the Lorax.
