It's been an exciting and jam-packed few weeks in the Prep area.
Structured literacy:
Each morning we start our day with Word Study. We revise letter sounds with the support of cued articulation. We also focus on handwriting with correct formation of both upper and lowercase letters, dictation, writing high-frequency words, rhyme, alliteration and syllables and well as choral reading. It's a lot of fun and the students are doing an incredible job of learning their letter sounds.
Wednesday rotations:
Our weekly Wednesday rotations are in full swing. The prep grades have 3 rotations (PMP, maths and oral language/Discovery). The students are really enjoying PMP where they focus on developing motor skills through various stations. Without our parent helpers this program could not run, so the Prep teachers would like to say a big 'THANK YOU' to our helpers for assisting us each Wednesday!
Maths:
We have recently finished a 2-week unit on Addition. The students were introduced to adding numbers by using different strategies such as number bonds, tens frames and number lines. They also explored 'commutativity' through counters and hands-on materials.
Special person morning:
Last Friday, the Prep classrooms welcomed our special people into our classrooms. We had Mums and Grandma's and our classrooms were packed! We had some fabulous activities for our students to do with their special person. We decorated photo frames, made bracelets and decorated mugs. We enjoyed seeing all the smiles and happy faces in the classroom.
Concert dance rehearsals:
Our dance lessons have started this week in preparation for our school concert next term. The preps were so excited to begin learning our steps. We cannot wait to show everyone at the concert!
As you can see it has been a busy couple of weeks in the prep area. We hope you've enjoyed a little insight into what's been going on!
