In the classroom

Foundation / Grade 1
This fortnight in the Foundation and Grade One room we continued to build out Literacy skills. Our Foundations now know Maggie Mouse and Sammy Seal and are working on orally segmenting 3 letter words. Our Grade One’s have been learning songs to remember tricky words and building on becoming stronger at creating Super Sentences.
In Numeracy we have been creating numbers using concrete materials, Foundations up to 10 and Grade Ones up to 100. Lots of excitement around creating these numbers and explaining why and how they make a certain number.
In week 8 our class got to be in the kitchen during our SAKG session. The banana pancakes were a hit with the class excited about their next cooking session at the end of the term.
Grade 1/2
We loved our first cooking session with Mrs Conroy this fortnight, the banana pancakes were a big hit! It was great to see everyone taking turns and helping each other in the kitchen and of course enjoying the delicious pancakes at the end of the session.
After our session in the kitchen, we went to Mass, where we were lucky enough to celebrate Mass at the Altar with Father Jophin! The students love having the opportunity to investigate all of the items on the Altar and what they are used for during the celebration of Mass.
Grade 3/4/5
The Grade 3, 4 and 5 students have been enjoying our new down ball courts. With the new agreed rules in place, they have had a great time, so much so they have written letters of appreciation.
I think the new down ball court rules and values are going pretty good and I’ve seen people going out without arguing. It’s a lot better so everyone has a chance in the game and the line keeps moving. It is also better with no king to dungeon and no cherries it has made a big improvement on how people play the game and now they listen to the rules.

I like the new down ball rules. The new down ball rules make playing fun and fair and enjoyable and there are less arguments. The new painted down ball courts make it easier to spot a liner.

Grade 6
For the first half of Term One, Year Six students were studying Prayer as a part of Religious Education. As an assessment task, they wrote their own prayers and created a prayer journal. The four types of prayer that we investigated were prayers of petition, prayers of thanksgiving, prayers of praise and prayers of growth. Students did an excellent job reflecting on these types of prayers and crafting their own. Here are some wonderful examples of their hard work during this unit.
