From the Head of Ivanhoe Edge

Michelle van Beek, Head of Ivanhoe Edge
Welcome back to Semester Two! The focus for Term 3 is maximising our potential. This focus brings with it a range of opportunities for our students to engage in to get the most out of their performance. There is a lot planned for Ivanhoe Edge students this semester. Our second VIS trip will be happening on Friday 9 August. Our respiratory training workshops are commencing in week 5. These sessions are highly recommended as they will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to use their breath effectively in training, games as well as every day life. Our parent workshop is being held on Tuesday 6 August at 7:00pm. A reminder for Ivanhoe Edge families to book in to this session to avoid missing out on a spot.
While many of you were away enjoying your holidays, there were many who braved the cold and participated in our Holiday Programs. A reminder that during the September break we are planning on offering a great session on how to be a DJ, and a dance focused program around building your strength as a dancer and a range of sports options as well. Read more about our holiday programs in the Holiday Program article.
During the Holidays some of Ivanhoe Edge students were lucky enough to watch the Boomers and Opals train in our wonderful sporting facilities. It was exciting for our students to see the intensity and passion of the Boomers and Opals players; particulalry as Basketball Australia was still deciding, at the time, who would make the Olympic Team. Having witnessed their training sessions, there is a little more passion for an Australian Basketball win when watching the Paris Olympics.
This semester we ran a range of Parent and Student Information Nights. These are an important part of Ivanhoe Edge, as our philosophy and approach is founded in the partnership we have with families. Alongside developing specific skills for our students, our focus is also on building community, educating everyone involved for great holistic outcomes. More information about our info nights can be found in the article further in this newsletter titled Student and Parent Workshops.
We are now offering a limited range of Junior Edge sessions. Junior Edge is specifically designed for students in Years 3 through to Years 4. Students in Junior Edge have the option to do 1:1 or small group coaching depending on their interest. All students are grouped by their skill development level for their chosen activity. Strength and conditioning sessions for Junior Edge students are run as a group and are specifically designed for their developmental age. Read more about Junior Edge, in the article further in this newsletter.
