F/1/2 CLASSROOM

The F/1/2 class has had a busy two weeks.

The students have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of literacy based excursions.

In week 4, the students went to Flying Bookworm. The students demonstrated their road safety skills as we walked to P-12. At P-12 we listened to and participated in a variety of poems and stories, including a ‘Hats for sale’, ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’, and a poem about a dragon.

Today, we went on an excursion to the Rushworth Library. The students listened to shortlisted books, participated in action songs, and completed a craft activity. The students also learned about how a library works and where things are located in the library.

In Maths, the students have been focusing on multiplication. They have been learning how to represent the problems as ‘groups of’ and are developing an understanding that pictorial representations do not always have to be a circle with lines in it. We have also started investigating arrays for multiplication and how we can use skip counting to solve problems.

In Phonics, we have been learning about vowel digraphs. The students have been using the phrase ‘When two vowels go out walking the first one usually does the talking.’ to help them remember which vowel sound they are hearing in the digraph.

In the coming weeks, we have a lot of learning and events planned.

Wednesday 21st August: Auslan with Tim; Attending Mass led by the Grade 5/6s.

Thursday 22nd August: Bluearth with Amalie.

In Religion, we will be moving onto our ‘I can talk to God’ unit. In this unit the students will be learning about prayer and connecting with God in a variety of ways.
