My First Speech Competition

Entries are open now and close on 27 July 2024.

The competition asks Year 10 , 11 and 12 students to consider what they would say if they were a newly elected Member of the House of Representatives, and to record themselves presenting the speech on video. Speeches are judged on the basis of content, crafting and delivery.

One winner from each year level will be flown to Canberra with a parent or guardian to present their speeches live and undertake a program of meetings at Parliament House.

This website outlines how to enter and gives you some tips.

In case you find it helpful, here is my own first speech in Parliament.

For more information on the competition please feel free to contact my office, email: helen.haines.mp@aph.gov.au
