Netball Vic School Championships

The sun shone down on our girls at the Netball Victoria School Championships on Wednesday the 31st of July, with College having 4 highly competitive teams in the Primary (5/6), Junior (7/8), Intermediate (9/10), and Senior (11/12) divisions. Schools from across the district attended the day and the competition was very close across all grades, making for an exciting day of netball.

Our primary girls played incredibly throughout the day, taking away 6 wins out of their 8 matches, developing throughout the tournament and finishing with an 11-1 win over St Mary’s. These girls are showing great promise for future College teams. Finishing third overall, the girls played some great netball.. Thank you to all the volunteers who got them there including coach Kate Pye.

Our Junior squad, coached by Mrs Ogle, gelled together quickly, beating Good Shepherd 11-0 first up. They had some amazing passages of play, with 5 wins and a draw out of their 7 matches for the day. Outstanding performances from all the girls contributed to great full-court pressure and tight games. Thank you to Alana Brown for scoring throughout the day.

The Intermediate team, fresh off a trip to Shepparton for the ICCES Winter Tour, continued to show great promise with 3 wins from 6 games. Coached by Mrs Malseed, the girls played clinical games all day and their never-say-die attitude is one to be admired.

Our Senior team, coached by Nat O’Dea, had a rough start against Ballarat Clarendon. However, they built on their experience to come up with 2 wins from their 7 games. Whilst not the result the girls were looking for, rock-solid defence and strong match-ups kept the girls competitive all day.

Thank you to all who coached and team-managed, allowing our girls to be the best they could be. A further massive thank you goes to our umpires of the day Susie Holcombe, Suse McClure, and Alanna Sharrock, as without them the tournament would not go ahead.

Division 1 Women

Sunday's battle between College Women and Dunkled Blue was quite a show, with College Women putting up a tough defence for Dunkled Blue, not letting a goal through for a whole half. The game became even more intense in the third quarter after Dunkled Blue scored the first goal of the game. College was quick to act on this, with Lily Cush connecting the ball to Sophie Merrin, who scored the goal to tie the game (1-1). Key players were Liv Read with her strong defence, Lisa Spence with her immaculate goalie skills, and Bels Little and Sophie Merrin bringing the ball forward. goal scorer was Sophie Merrin (1).
