Middle Years
- Mr Ben Hawthorne
This week the Year 8s began their Teen Mental Health First Aid Training (TMHFA) as part of the Live4Life program. This is a great opportunity for them to develop the knowledge and skills of taking care of their own and their friend’s mental health. As part of the TMHFA course, they explored strategies that they can use to ensure they maintain a healthy mind. Including what to do if a friend is experiencing mental health concerns, along with how and when to seek help.
The course explores three components that make up mental health: thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and each of these components influences each other. Our Year 8s have learned the difference between helpful and unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviour along with what a mental health problem is, “a big change in thinking, feeling and behaviour that gets in the way of doing things and lasts for a while.” While we do hope that the Year 8s won’t need to use this knowledge and skills, it is great to have all of our students trained in Teen Mental Health.
Mittagundi count down
The Year 8s are also getting excited about their Mittagundi Camp coming up next week, which departs on Thursday 15 August.
