School Hats for Term 3
All students are required to wear a hat when outside each day in Term 3 and 4, in line with The Cancer Council of SA recommendations. Please ensure your child has returned their hat to school after the holiday break so they can wear it each day. To find out more visit www.cancersa.org.au
Please refer to the Campus Skin Protection Policy for further details.
Instrumental Lessons
We have a number of camps, excursions and academic competitions happening this term. Please note that parents and caregivers are responsible for contacting music instrumental teachers when there is a clash between school events and your child’s instrumental lesson, or when your child is away for their instrumental lesson due to an appointment or sickness.
As indicated in the Instrumental Music Program booklet that was sent home at the start of the year:
Absenteeism
- If students are absent on the day of their lesson, the instrumental teacher must be notified by phoning them directly, preferably at least 24 hours prior to their lesson. In the rare occurrence where this is not possible due to sudden illness, the teacher should be notified at the latest by 8.45am of the day concerned.
- If students are going on an excursion/camp, or will not attend for any other pre-planned reason on the day of their lesson, where possible the instrumental teacher must be notified at least one week prior to the lesson. If this prior notification is given the lesson may be rescheduled or a ‘catch up’ lesson organised.
Staff Recruitment and Student Voice
Pilgrim School is a community where everyone belongs and is valued. Two of our Year 5 students explored what this means when the school is employing new staff.
An interview with Mr Edmondson about Employment Panels and Student Involvement
By Archer and Eli
What are the most important things you ask when interviewing teachers to work at Pilgrim School?
About their Christian faith journey and following Jesus.
There are students on the interview panel. Why is this and what do they do?
It is important to have students on the panel to give us feedback and ideas about who we may employ in our School. It is really important we employ people who love working with children and want to see every child Belong, Explore, Flourish and Serve in the Pilgrim community.
What are you looking for when employing teachers?
Someone who:
- Loves Jesus
- Wants to work with children and families
- Has a passion for teaching
- Has great skills and abilities
- Enjoys working with other people, in a team.
What is your favourite type of teacher you want for Pilgrim School?
As a panel selecting new teachers, we want a range of different personalities, skills, talents and gifts. The more diverse and interesting our staff team is, the greater chance that richer relationships with lots of different students will happen.
What are you looking for when allowing students to participate in the interview panels?
We invite students to join the interview panel, as we value student voice and consider this when decision making in our School. It's important that students make positive connections with any new staff working in our School.
We asked some students that were invited to join an interview panel, how they found the experience.
Johnny
“I was excited to get the opportunity, it was easy though.’’
Yasmin
“I was excited to do the interview, it was easy interviewing the teachers.’’
Brodie
“We asked questions about them and what they like doing. I felt nervous at first and then after I didn’t feel nervous any more.’’
