🌱LITERACY
We will continue learning about the specific roles involved in undertaking a novel study in a Literature Circle. These roles include:
Grade 5 students will finish reading the text, Dirrarn by Carl Merrison and Hakea Hustler.
Grade 6 students will finish reading Part 2 of Us Mob Walawarru by David Spillman and Lisa Wilyuka. We have enjoyed reading our texts in 'Fluency Pairs' where the students have had the opportunity to real aloud, focusing on fluency, expression and peer feedback.
On completion of our class texts above, we will be looking at the mentor text, The Giving Tree. After analysing this text, students will use this to inspire their writing, using personification to bring an object to life in narrative and poetry writing.
The table below outlines the Language Conventions we will be looking at during our Literacy sessions.
What you can do at home
Help your child to set aside time to read - preferably every night. This will help them build important learning habits. Your child now has access to Reading Eggspress, to help with adding variety to their range of text choices.
🌱MATHS
We will be applying our understanding of fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages to probability tasks. Students will play and then create unfair games, recognising how statistics can be used to advantage or disadvantage in game creation.
What you can do at home
Play games at home that involve chance, taking opportunities to use vocabulary to describe the probability/likelihood of events and discuss possible outcomes.
🌱HOMEWORK
- Mathletics - minimum 1000 points from the work that has been set or 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a week.
- Reading 20 minutes per night, 4 times a week (Reading Eggspress is available)
- Recording events in their student diaries
- Grade 5s 2025 Grade 6 Polo t-shirt.
- Grade 6s will continue working on their Graduation Memory Book.
📗GRADE 6 MEMORY BOOK
A suggested timeline and high quality examples have been posted to your child's Showbie account under 'Memory Books'. They have been briefed on the expectations and have been encouraged to follow the suggested timeline where possible. We look forward to seeing their completed books in late Term 4.
The first page should be completed for Prep and students should now be working on Grade 1 and have this completed by Sunday 25th August.
📚PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE
Remind your child to upload their reading to their Premiers' Reading Challenge account if you would like them to participate in this challenge.
