Feast of St Mary of the Cross

Last Friday we gathered together to celebrate the life and work of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop by participating in a liturgy.

Mary MacKillop, alongside Fr Julian Tennison Woods, began the very first Australian order of nuns, known as the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart.

St Mary and her sisters opened schools, orphanages and houses of providence for the poor and destitute.

At John Paul II Catholic School, we have chosen St Mary as a spiritual guide and role-model. We have words of inspiration from St Mary in places around our school and look to her example in our learning and interactions.

A prayer in gratitude for St Mary of the Cross.

Loving God, we thank you for the example of Mary MacKillop who,

in her living of the Gospel, witnessed to the human dignity of each person.

She faced life’s challenges with faith and courage.

We pray through her intercession for our needs.

May her holiness inspire us to be people of hope, love and forgiveness.

We make this prayer through Jesus the Lord.

Amen.
