Level 2: Connect

Celebrating Term 2
It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the halfway point of the year—where has the time gone?! We’ve been so impressed by their flexibility and their ongoing commitment to doing their personal best.
Please note: There will not be any further homework until the commencement of Term 3. However, please encourage your child to read every day as well as accessing the online learning such as Mathletics and Wushka.
Literacy
Next week, we will finish our unit on Great Inventions. Students will explore and discuss:
- How have toys evolved through history?
We encourage you to engage with your child about this topic at home next week. We hope these discussions spark curiosity and lead to enriching conversations!
Core Literacy
Over the past two weeks, students have been building on their phonics knowledge, focusing on new spelling patterns and heart words.
In Week 9, students learnt the digraph ei (which makes two sounds - long e and long a sound), the prefix trans-, and the heart words: muscle, island and ocean.
In Week 10, students leant the digraph gn (the g is silent, only the n is pronounced), the prefix con-/com-, and the heart words: often, question and animal.
Looking ahead in Core Literacy:
- Week 11: the students will review the sounds, heart words and morphology learnt this term.
Inquiry - NAIDOC Week:
Take One Picture: Hermannsburg Mission by Albert Namatjira
As part of SEPS NAIDOC Week celebrations in Week 11, classes will explore the painting 'Hermannsburg Mission' by Albert Namatjira. In this week the curriculum will align with the Take One Picture approach, where students engage in cross-curricular learning inspired by a single artwork. This is a valuable opportunity for students to learn more about First Australian art, culture and history in a meaningful and creative way.
Math- In Math over the past week and into next week, the Level 2 cohort have been revisiting re-naming numbers. This supports student's efforts when solving various equations.
We have also been looking at various worded problems and using the RUCSAC Method to solve these.
Here are some pictures to celebrate the students' work and creations in Developmental Play.
We wish everyone a safe and restful break over the holidays!
Warm regards,
Eileen Thompson, Kym Seccull, Anthony Klvac & Kylie Clarke
