Level 1: Connect

Suzanne Condran (1A), Kylie Clarke (1A Fridays), Robyn Sutton-Hall (1B) and Leon Tremain (1C)

Welcome to the final week of Term 2! What a super semester it has been!!

There will be a different homework rubric for the holiday period to celebrate NAIDOC Week. This can be found on the following link:

Term 2 Reminders:

Level 1 students head off every Friday to our new and improved school library. It is a chance for them to browse through our fabulous selection of books and borrow up to two books each week. Books may be borrowed for up to two weeks.

Please encourage the return of library books on a Friday.

Parent teacher interviews are on Tuesday 1st July (3:45-7pm) and Wednesday 3:45-5pm. This is a great opportunity for parents and teachers to celebrate students' learning throughout the semester.

Last day of Term 2 will be on Friday 4th of July. Dismissal time is 2:30

To help our Level 1 students settle in smoothly and confidently each day, we continue to encourage parents to say goodbye at the classroom door. This small step supports your child’s independence and helps create a calm and focused start to the morning.

We’ve found that students transition more easily into their daily routine when they come into the classroom on their own. Thank you for your support in helping your child build confidence and independence at school!

Literacy:

Over the past fortnight we have had the pleasure of reading and exploring two books written by Adam Goodes and Elaine Laing. We have read 'Somebody's Land' and 'Ceremony'. Learning about Indigenous culture and ways of life. This will lead in nicely to NAIDOC week which is from 6th-13th of July.

Some students work:

Heart words: This coming fortnight we will be focusing on  some and come and putting these words into sentences.

Phonemes: Next week will be learning that y can make the long vowel sound /i/.

Morphology: We will be learning the suffix -est. When comparing three or more things, -est is added to adjectives and adverbs to show which one has the most of a particular quality. For example, biggest, smallest, highest.

Maths:

Our Grade 1 students have been busy exploring two exciting areas of math: tally marks and measuring the mass of objects.

In our tally mark activities, students are learning to count and record data efficiently using groups of five. They’ve enjoyed surveying classmates on favourite colours, fruits, and animals, then representing their results with neat sets of tally marks. This hands-on approach is helping them develop strong counting and data organisation skills.

We’ve also started investigating mass by comparing the weight of everyday classroom items. Using balance scales, students are learning to describe objects as heavier, lighter, or about the same in mass. Through exploration and discussion, they’re developing important measurement vocabulary and beginning to understand how to estimate and compare weight in real-world contexts.

Inquiry - NAIDOC Week:

Take One Picture: Hermannsburg Mission by Albert

As part of SEPS NAIDOC Week celebrations in Week 11, classes will explore the painting 'Hermannsburg Mission' by Albert Namatjira. In this week the curriculum will align with the Take One Picture approach, where students engage in cross-curricular learning inspired by a single artwork. This is a valuable opportunity for students to learn more about First Australian art, culture and history in a meaningful and creative way.
