What's Happening in Prep?

Our grade preps have been very busy this term, being productive learners and taking part in lots of fun activities!

Mathematics

The students have been learning to manipulate and sequence numbers from 1-20. They’ve been counting backwards and forwards, making and counting collections, and representing the numbers in all different ways using materials like blocks, counters, tens frames, unifix blocks, and plastic teddies. They’ve also been practicing identifying the numbers before and after a given number. The students have been learning about length and using the vocabulary of measurement by saying which object is shorter and longer.  They have also been introduced to 2D shapes and how to describe the shapes.

English

The students have begun writing descriptive sentences about themselves, their peers, and everyday objects. They have been exploring describing perspectives like colour, size, texture, number, shape, and doing words. Alongside their writing, they have been verbalising their sentences by describing themselves to their peers. Students have also been looking at adding ‘s’ to words to make them plural and identifying words that rhyme. Students are completing daily phonics lessons in which they’re learning to blend and segment the sounds to form simple Consonant-Vowel-Consonant words. They do this through a range of activities like spelling quizzes, dictation, and sound swaps.

Inquiry

Students have been learning to identify and understand a range of emotions, and how to recognise these emotions in themselves and others. They have been exploring different relationships that they have at school and at home. Students have also been discussing their strengths and brainstorming different ways to make friends.

Team Building Incursion

Earlier in the term, both grades came together in the gym to take part in our team building incursion. They rotated through four different challenges that were designed to improve communication, problem-solving skills, resilience, and leadership skills.

Athletics Day

The students took part in their first ever Athletics Day! They proudly wore their team colours and played games like an egg and spoon race, hurdles, beanbag throws, and sack races! The rainy weather didn’t stop them from having an absolute blast!
