2025 School Council

Dear Parents,

This week, families will receive a link to a survey about our current Bring Your Own iPad Device (BYOiD) program.

At present, all students are required to bring their own iPad to school, with preps typically joining the program later in the year. Devices are expected to be brought to school each day, fully charged and ready to use. Their usage can vary—some days they are used extensively, others only briefly, and sometimes not at all.

Whilst the BYOiD program has been part of Mackellar for some time, recent shifts in the digital landscape, our renewed emphasis on explicit teaching, and growing concerns around screen time and social media have prompted school council to review whether this model continues to be the best fit for our community.

Your feedback, along with broader research, will help guide staff and school council in determining whether the current model still serves our needs, requires adjustments, or should be replaced with a different approach to digital learning.

We warmly encourage you to complete the survey upon its release with a positive and constructive mindset. Your voice is valued and will play an important role in shaping the future of digital learning at Mackellar.

Take care,

Vince Scarfo

School Council President
