Altar Servers

An altar server is a special helper during Mass in the Catholic Church. They help the priest and make sure everything runs smoothly. It’s an important job, and it’s also a way to serve God.

Some things that altar servers do in Mass include:

  • Carry the cross at the beginning and end of Mass.

  • Bring things to the altar, like the chalice (cup), the paten (plate), and other items used during the Eucharist.

  • Ring the bells at special times during Mass.

  • Help with incense if it’s being used.

Altar servers wear special clothes called vestments, usually a white robe called an alb. They need to be respectful, quiet, and focused during Mass.

Being an altar server is a great way to learn more about the Church and to help others pray. It’s also a chance to grow closer to God.

If your child has received their first Holy Communion, and is interested in becoming an altar server, training is being run after school on Thursday 4th September. Children can be signed up here: https://forms.office.com/r/qiJ45kH1am
