Dear Parents and Carers
It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of Term 2, and half of an academic year is over!
I hope that you all had the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher this week and was able to discuss your child’s growth and progress this year while also setting some clear and achievable goals for the rest of the year.
Starting from Term 3, we will revisit an important aspect of Numeracy Learning from Foundation to Year 4. This is Mental Strategies in Number. Mental Strategies include a series of developmental skills in Number Word Sequence, Addition & Subtraction and Multiplication & Division. Students are required to practice each skill till they can mentally compute related problems fluently and with accuracy. These skills will be included in the Homework for Year 3/4 each week. They are part of the Mathematics Lessons in Foundation to Year 2 and have also been posted on Class Dojo for parents to practice with your child at home. Regular practice of these skills is necessary for building confidence in your child’s mental computational skills in Number.
Next Term we will continue our work on the MACS Vision for Instruction with our staff and students. We have already seen a lot of success in our students with the use of full participation strategies in all classrooms coupled with explicit instructional practices. We will go deeper into understanding and exploring more layers of this approach in Term 3.
I wish you all a restful and healthy winter break. Thank you for supporting us in the education of your child.
Kind regards
Glennis Kerr
