Physical Education News

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We’re excited to share what’s been happening in the world of Physical Education (P.E.) at St Anthony’s this term! Our students have shown fantastic energy, teamwork, and resilience across a wide range of activities aimed at developing their physical, social, and emotional well-being.

In this term, the Preps focused on performing movements of both an overarm and underarm throw as well as using various techniques to catch objects of different sizes. Often these activities were done in teams or with a partner.

The Grade ½ this term focused on their balancing skills by performing different balancing poses using different parts of their bodies. They continued to work on locomotor movements in gymnastics such as the pencil roll and somersault roll. At the end of the term the students finished off participating in skills focusing on kicking and bouncing objects of different sizes.

Both the Grade ¾ and ⅚ students this term focused on their athletic unit which covered a number of different track and field events. Some of these events included long jump and triple jump as well as shot put and discus. Students were shown the correct technique to perform each event as well as the scoring and rules to go along with them.

Cross Country

On the 18th of June, three of our 5/6 students, Kobe, Ruth and Jenul, competed in this year's Southern Metropolitan Region Cross Country race down at Hastings Foreshore. This was Ruth’s and Jenul’s first time competing at the regional level, while for Kobe this would be back to back years that he had qualified for this race.

All three students showed great determination, persistence and effort to complete the race as fast as they possibly could. Whilst they unfortunately missed out on progressing to the next stage, myself and Josh are extremely proud of them and their achievements. We thank them for representing the school with flying colours whilst showing all their hard work and dedication throughout their journey as it was something truly remarkable.

We would also like to thank all the staff that came to each of the races, as well as the parents for their support at each of the events. Finally, to all the students who both tried out and competed in this year’s cross country, we would like to thank you for all your hard work and look forward to next year.

Interschool Sports

As this year's interschool sports season comes to a close, I would like to thank both our coaches and 5/6 students for representing St Anthony’s this semester. Each student displayed excellent teamwork, effort, determination and sportsmanship in all their games.

Whilst the winter season is over for some students, we’re thrilled to announce that our mixed soccer team and both our mixed and girls netball teams have progressed to the District Winter Sports Finals. This will take place on the 24th of July at Silverton Primary School.

Permission slips for this event have been sent out and need to be returned to either Ms Fisher (Netball Coach) or Mr Harisiou (Soccer Coach).
