Sustainability in Action

Dear Families,
OUR TERM 2 SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM.
- Earlier this term all students potted up a strawberry plant for Mother’s Day. We have also potted up lots of strawberry plants to sell later in the year.
- We have tidied up all our school veggie gardens by digging them over, adding manure and mulch.
- We have planted our Winter crop with lots of garlic, onion, silverbeet, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and more being planted.
- Students have helped to plant 50 raspberry plants in our fruit orchard. We began growing these plants last year as part of our Fruits For The Future Project.
- Last week, our Grade 4 children learnt how to plant cuttings to grow into new plants.
All in all a very busy and productive term.
SOFT PLASTICS & POSTER COMPETITION
This term, we have had a strong focus on collecting soft plastics in each classroom. Each week, our Grade 6 Sustainability Leaders: Flynn, Tommie, Jaxson and Jed, collect the soft plastics from each class. These are taken to the Glebe Hill Soft Plastics Collection site to be recycled into usable products.
Over the last 3 weeks of this term, we have had a competition to see which class collects the most plastic. Classes have also created posters as part of the competition.
Congratulations to all classes for doing a great job in collecting soft plastics and helping to care for our planet!
VOLUNTEER THANKS
Special thanks to parents, Sally Innes (Hugh - Prep), and grandparents, Wendy Atkinson (Feuree - Gr 5), and Stan Andrewartha ( Maddie - Gr 6, Aidan - Gr 4), who have helped with our Garden Program this term. We are very grateful for their assistance, as this allows us to involve more students each term.
SUSTAINABILITY LEADERS - THANK YOU
Special thanks to our Term 1 & 2 Grade 6 Sustainability Leaders, Tommie, Flynn, Jed and Jaxson for their excellent assistance and leadership. They have assisted with our school garden program, helped to run our soft plastics competition and helped with garden chores.
