Acting Principal's Report

Term 2 Week 9

Dear families,

As we get through the last few weeks of term, please stay warm and take care of yourselves. If students are unwell, take the time to rest and report any absences via compass and/ or contacting the main office. Jonathan Skipworth will be following up absences for the remainder of Term 2.

Semester 1 Reports

Please be reminded that the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 has been updated and rolled out across all government schools. As such, the Semester 1 reports will look different. As part of the report, there will be a letter outlining the changes, however the majority of the content stays the same, it has just been re-organised. Another change will entail students receiving one Progression Point for Numeracy, which is aggregated over the three areas, rather than three individual Progression Points. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher. We will hold parent teacher conferences in week 2 and 3 next term for more formal discussions.

Mobile Phone Use at WNPS

Students who choose to bring mobile devices to school (inclusive of smart watches) must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours. This means a change in practice for Williamstown North Primary School from Term 3 onward, which will bring us in-line with State-wide policy. All classrooms have secure, lockable filing cabinets, and students will hand their devices to their classroom teachers at 8:50am, and pick them up on the way out of their classrooms at 3:30pm. If you need to contact your child during school hours, please do so via the main office, who will pass on any information/ messages.

2026 Prep Enrolments

We are currently welcoming enrolments for our 2026 Prep cohort. In line with Department of Education timelines, all families are asked to submit their child’s enrolment form by Friday 25th July. Letters of offer will be sent out to families in early August, and the school’s transition program will begin in September.

NAIDOC Week

At Williamstown North Primary School, we are celebrating NIADOC week in week 11 with an exciting line-up of events and activities, organised and coordinated by our amazing Marrung Working Group. A huge thank you to Andrew, Chelsea, Dean, Hannah, Helen, and Judith!

Monday 30 June: Rhythms of Reconciliation in-school activity - an interactive show featuring live music, storytelling, and movement exploring unity, respect, and truth-telling.

Wednesday 2 July: Morning Tea for Culture – a community event held in our library between 9:30am and 11:00am, including a school choir performance, and student art on display. Parents and carers are encouraged to attend, and the coffee van will be onsite.

Thursday 3 July: Little Long Walk – Inspired by AFL legend Michael Long’s historic walk to Canberra, we will go on a Little Long Walk around our school grounds to celebrate and learn about the strength, stories, and culture of First Nations people. The event commences with a Welcome to Country and Smoking ceremony at 11:30am, with classes walking through the school in staggered groupings. Students are invited to wear their footy colours, or dress in the colours of the First Nations Flag, and parents/ carers are welcome to join us on the day.

The winners of our Colouring Challenge will be announced, and prizes handed out at our Whole School Assembly on Friday 2 July.
