The weather was very fitting last Friday for our Big Freeze Fundraiser. It was freezing and to make it even more so, our Junior School Council enjoyed tipping buckets of ice over staff members heads! This fundraiser was organised by our Junior School Council with the support of Joshua Hick and we are very pleased to announce that over $1,700 was raised towards Fight MND. Thank you everyone for your generosity and support of this important cause. We hope that this will become an annual event on our fundraising calendar.
At Greenhills we have a culture of connection and fun and last Friday our House Captains and Louise Scally (Assistant Principal at Wales Street Primary School) who has been working at Greenhills for 20 days as part of the Unlocking Potential Principal Preparation Program organised a Fun Friday Facepainting session at lunchtime. It was a huge success with lots of smiles on students faces. Stay tuned for more fun announcements and other activities throughout this year.
The Year 3’s and 4’s had a wonderful time at Edendale Farm last week! They have been loving our Inquiry ‘How Did It Grow, Where Did It Go?’ where they have been learning a lot about foods and fibres. At Edendale, they got to explore the farm, meet some super cute animals and learn about sustainability. The students loved learning about the environmental impact of what we eat, which takes into account how food is produced, and what the term ‘Food Miles’ means. They also played ‘Recycle Relay’ where they were timed and had to put the correct clean rubbish prop into the correct bins.
Our student artworks continue to look stunning around our school. These photos are just a small example of our current gallery in our administration building corridor.
Years 1 & 2 Fauvist Cows
Our young artists in Years 1 & 2 have been exploring the bold and exciting world of Fauvism. Inspired by artists like Henri Matisse and Andre Derain, the students learned how Fauvism is all about using wild, unexpected colours and expressive strokes to show emotion rather than realism.
This playful approach helped our artists understand that art doesn’t always have to look “real”, it can feel real using colour and creativity to tell a story.
Our Year 5 & 6 Action Teams are in full swing. These groups meet each Friday at 12.30pm and focus on students developing their leadership skills via collaborating on various actions or projects.
Some of our students from the Community Action Team are running a Bake Sale this Friday 13th June. All monies raised will be donated to Royal Children’s Hospital.
With the newsletter this week, I have included a Term 3 calendar. This provides families with a list of dates for the different activities we have organised next term.
Two of the most important dates to remember are:
LAST DAY OF TERM – FINISH AT 2.30PM
A reminder that on our last day this term, Friday 4th July we will finish at 2.30pm. Our assembly will be at 2pm.
