Principal's Views

This newsletter is the final one for the term, Term 2 has been filled with many exciting events and activities.

The highlight of this week has definitely been the  Semester 1 Performing Arts concerts. Well done to PAW, PST, 1BW, 1GC, 2MC, 2AP, 3MM, 3EN, 4EK, 4JR, 5JM, 5AT, 6ZG, 6RM & 6JT. Also, a  big congratulations to Sun who has singlehandedly rehearsed, planned, prepared, advertised and delivered an amazing two afternoons of music, laughter and smiles.

Each class performed with energy and took us on a journey across cultures, continents, planets and through the ages. The students’ confidence, teamwork, and enthusiasm lit up the stage and it is obvious we have some budding performers and maybe even the next Australian Idol among the EVPS community.

Thank you to the families for coming along and providing costumes, helping with rehearsals at home, and cheering on the children. We also apologise for going over time and thank you for your understanding for the late finish.

Attendance

Well done to everyone across the school for their ongoing commitment to being at school every day. Students with 100% attendance for the term will be acknowledged at next week’s end of term assembly on Thursday at 9:15am. The whole school is sitting above 90% attendance for the year and we are very proud of our efforts. We also  have a lower number of students arriving late, so thank you for your commitment to getting your child to school on time. Gates are open at 8:45am and students are expected in class at 8:50am for their morning meeting. We look forward to continuing to improve out attendance in the second half of the year.

Student Led Conference Day – it was wonderful to see so many families brave the wintery weather to join us on Wednesday. We had a fantastic turn out with 85% of families and students participating. Students enjoyed sharing their learning with their families and talking about Semester 1 successes. If you missed the opportunity to meet with the teacher, you are welcome to contact the office and make a time early next term.

We had a number of interpreters on site to support families for the student led conferences and we are excited to provide families with a free incoming interpreter telephone service.

Family Partnerships and Respect for School Staff

When parents, carers and school staff work together as one team, our students do better. Everyone at school, particularly staff and parents/carers, play a role in making school a better place for learning and work.

Parents, carers and school staff work together to create a positive relationship in the best interests of the child. When this relationship is built on respect and trust, students learn better and feel like they belong in the school.

Every member of our school community has a right to feel safe and be protected.

The department’s Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy describes the positive behaviour expected from parents, carers, and other adults in Victorian school communities. The policy sets clear standards of behaviour to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for students, staff and adults.

You may notice new posters up around the school, promoting positive behaviour.

These posters have been provided to all Victorians schools. You can also find policy information and resources here.

We are saddened by the ongoing and distressing events in the Middle East. During this difficult time, we recognise that members of our school community may be affected in different ways. We want to remind families and students that support is available. Our wellbeing team is here to provide a safe space for anyone who needs to talk, and additional resources can be accessed through our wellbeing team or the front office. Please don’t hesitate to reach out — we are here to support each other with care and compassion.

Next week the whole school assembly is on Thursday at 9.15am – we invite parents & carers to join us to celebrate student attendance and achievements and show case some of the performances. The last day of term is on Friday 4th July, the canteen will be closed and we have an early finish at 2.30pm.

Families can continue to use School Savings Bonus (SSB) funds until Monday 30 June 2025 to buy uniforms or to allocate funds to school activities using the parent/carer online system.

The parent/carer online system will close at 11:59 pm on 30 June 2025. Any unused online supplier vouchers will expire, and all unspent SSB funds will revert to a school activities credit held against the family account for each student.

As we head into the school holidays, I want to wish you all a safe and happy break. We look forward to the exciting opportunities and learning experiences that Term 3 will bring.
