Miss Deane - Junior Classroom Teacher
In Literacy this fortnight, students have been working in to target specific phonics and word recognition skills. Mr Stow’s group has focused on the ‘igh’ and ‘y’ sounds, as well as learning to read and spell tricky words such as mother, father, cousin, and sister. Miss Deane’s group has been exploring the ‘e’ sound and tricky words like they and that. In Writing, students have been learning about conjunctions, particularly using the word because to extend their ideas. They have also been developing their understanding of sentence structure by including nouns, verbs, and adjectives in their writing.
In Maths, students are working through a comprehensive unit on Addition and Subtraction. Over the past fortnight, the focus has been on number stories. Students have been learning how to read and understand these stories, and how to represent them using drawings and concrete materials. This hands-on approach is helping them to build a stronger understanding of the relationship between numbers and real-life problem solving.
