In Literacy, we have been learning about Australian Poetry, specifically "The Ant Explorer" and "Mulga Bill's Bicycle". Students have been learning about the structure of poems and their literary devices such as alliteration, personification, hyperbole, repetition and imagery. They are currently working on planning, drafting and publishing their own sequel to "The Ant Explorer" called "The Ant's Next Journey". I am so excited to read the published poems, they are all amazing!
Here are two examples:
The Ant’s Next Journey
After a good night sleep and a delicious home cooked meal,
The little ant did think a lot about the way he did feel.
Down the path he wandered to the car,
He buckled up and hung off the bar.
Someone I did not know hopped in the car,
They brought with them a bright red star.
Then a little girl appeared in a car seat,
She held a star and sucked on her feet.
Then we started driving on the road,
I was thriving until we hit a toad.
Then we heard a noise so we hopped out to see the tire was flat,
So we pushed it all the way back to the front door mat.
And this is the way we went right past the big bright green toad,
That was smack bang in the middle of the road.
I walked through the slimy saliva,
And jumped onto the bright red star.
He swung back off the bar “ouch my head”,
And then leapt out of the car, that was red.
Then he was in the house so warm and cosy,
And there his dog was, her name was Posy.
Then he went and had a nice warm shower,
How good, he was full of power.
For dinner that night he had some creamy carbonara,
And hopped into bed dreaming of a Parma.

The Ant’s Next Journey
After a good night of sleep and a delicious home cooked meal,
The little ant did think a lot about the way he did feel,
So, he booked a trip to Zimbabwe and a place to stay,
His parents said be careful since its far away.
So, he got on a Qantas plane,
And went fast flying the lane,
When he arrived to Zimbabwe he was thrilled,
But the next day he was sadly billed.
So, he went to the town shops,
To buy a couple fashion tops,
He went to a friend’s house,
Just to find a dead mouse.
Then he saw the date and got worried,
Because his flight was tomorrow so he hurried,
So, he went to a fancy hotel,
And had a fabulous meal from a motel.
In the morning, he rushed to the airport,
For the plane there is the one he caught,
When he got back to Australia,
He met a new friend named Leah.
So he went back to his house with his new friend,
And done a really cool TikTok trend,
When his new friend went home,
He had a sleep with a bit of cozy foam

In Mathematics, we have focused on learning about shapes, angles, and how to use a protractor. Students have learnt that shapes have vertices, faces, edges and shapes can have symmetry. We went on a scavenger hunt around the school where students located and described angles around the school.
We hope you have a great week!
