Speech Night – School Captain Reflections
On Wednesday the 18th of June, the School Captains had the opportunity to host the semi-finals of the school’s public speaking competition. Each class had two winners who presented their speeches on the night, with the Grade 6 finalists now moving on to compete in the Manningham Rotary Speech Competition against other schools. Many parents came to watch and support the event, and it was a great opportunity to hear a variety of interesting and passionate speeches. As School Captains, we welcomed the audience, introduced the speakers, and congratulated the presenters. With the support of Mr Ryan, the night ran smoothly and was a great experience for everyone involved.
Nathaniel's Reflection:
On Wednesday the 18th of June the School Captains hosted the Doncaster Primary School speech competition with the Level 5 and 6 winners. I, myself, was a speaker. I was lucky enough to win the 6W competition and compete in the next stage. On the Monday leading up to the competition the Level 6 winners presented their speeches as practice for Wednesday. On the day I could tell everyone was anxious presenting their speeches. All of them were very different in a way. When it was my turn I tried my best and I’m proud of my effort. Sadly I didn’t win the competition for Level 6, however, I enjoyed presenting my speech as it was my last year at DPS. Overall, It was a great night for everyone, one of the best experiences for all speakers.
Alex’s Reflection:
This was my first time hosting something after school hours, and I really enjoyed it. I loved hearing the speeches, and even though only two students could go through, everyone did an amazing job. One of my biggest challenges is presenting in front of adults—I tend to stutter and freeze when I see their serious faces. But this event taught me a lot, and I learnt how to present confidently and respectfully.
Chloe’s Reflection:
It was a bit nerve-wracking coming up with something to say on the spot to congratulate the presenters, but I think I did okay! I really enjoyed listening to the different speeches and seeing what everyone is passionate about. Overall, it was a great experience and something I really love doing as a school captain.
Neli’s Reflection:
This was our first time hosting a competition like this, and it was such an enjoyable night. The Level 5 and 6 students did an amazing job, and the support from Mr Ryan helped everything run really smoothly. It was a great experience for all of us.
