EAL Update – Term 2 Highlights
The final five weeks of Term 2 have been a busy and productive time in EAL. Students have been expanding their vocabulary and language skills through a unit on Australian animals, weather, seasons, and hemispheres. They explored why the seasons in Australia differ from those in other parts of the world and developed their understanding of related concepts.
Students in Year 5 and Year 6 enjoyed a valuable real-world learning experience during their excursion to the food court at Westfield Doncaster. There, they ordered their lunch in English and were encouraged to try a variety of international cuisines. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to apply their language skills in a practical setting. The students did their best and conducted themselves respectfully, proudly representing DPS.
Meanwhile, Year 4 students have been busy writing detailed recounts of their experiences at Camp Rumbug.
While the EAL learners in Years 1, 2, and 3 have been working hard on their sentence writing and reading aloud, focusing on the use of high-frequency words.
Well done to all our EAL students for their effort and progress this term!
