Around Our Level
This week in Prep, we have been learning to play with our own friends independently in the school yard. Our students have been well supported by their Grade 5 Buddies and are now confidently learning to negotiate, cooperate with others, follow the school rules, and line up when the bell rings. A big thank you to our wonderful Grade 5 students who have assisted our Preps with settling in so well to school, with our routines, and with our expectations. You have been amazing role models and should be very proud of your efforts.
In Literacy, we have commenced the ‘Getting Started’ lessons for UFli (our phonics program), which has involved learning about the different types of lines, such as curved, vertical, horizontal, and slanted. Our students have been learning to recognise capital letters and to write some of these and to recognise the sounds that they make. These have included uppercase 'A', 'L', 'E', 'F', 'H', 'T', 'I', 'Q', 'C', 'G', 'P', 'B', and 'D'.
In Maths, we have been learning about the numbers 1 to 5 (recognising, ordering, and writing these). The children have enjoyed playing ‘corners’ in the classroom, playing BUZZ, and counting and working with their shoulder partner to make the numbers using unifix blocks.

In Integrated Studies, we have been learning about how we celebrate birthdays and traditions, such as parties, opening presents, games, and food. We also made cards for Valentines Day. We will also be looking at families and how they are all different, unique, and special to us.
In Wellbeing, we have been learning to be friendship ‘Ninjas’, and about self-love and self-care (being our own best friend).

Last Monday our Preps attended their very first whole school assembly in the gym. These will be conducted every second week and the first of our students will begin to receive their ‘Celebrating our Students’ awards/certificates at assembly. We hope to see lots of you there each week.
The School Nurse will also be visiting in March. She will be checking students’ vision and hearing. Please ensure that you have provided consent and completed the questionnaire.
Next week, we will be meeting up at Warrien Reserve for our Prep Picnic on Thursday 26th February at 5pm. This is a wonderful chance to get to know other families and for all our Prep students to mix and get to know each other in a relaxed and friendly environment. Mrs Butler, Mrs James, Miss Ross, and Mrs Cooper will also be attending. We look forward to seeing you there!

Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below students' certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
Prep A - Mrs Cooper
Clay A

Prep B - Miss Ross
