Principal's Message

School Review

We are looking forward to our upcoming School Review, which will take place on Monday 23rd of February and Thursday 5th of March. The School Review is an important opportunity for us to reflect on our progress and begin shaping the next phase of our School Strategic Plan.

As part of the review process, we will be holding focus groups with parents, students, and staff. These conversations will help us identify future goals and strategies to ensure our school continues to grow, improve, and provide the best possible learning environment for our students.

We are excited about this opportunity to celebrate our achievements and work together to set clear, purposeful goals for the future.

Parent Focus Group

As part of our upcoming School Review, we warmly invite parents and carers to attend our Parent Forum on Monday 23rd of February at 3:00pm. This is a valuable opportunity to meet with the school reviewer, share your perspectives, and contribute to shaping our goals for the next School Strategic Plan. Your voice is an important part of our improvement journey, and we encourage all interested families to be involved. Please register your interest via the Google Form below, and remember to sign in at the front office on arrival on the day. We look forward to your participation.

Announcement and Call for School Council Nominations

The Yarra Road Primary School Council election process has now commenced. Yarra Road Primary School Council is calling for nominations for 5 parent member positions, 2 Community Member positions, and 1 Staff member position available on our school council. Parents/carers and staff are encouraged to nominate for a position.

Nominations close 4pm on the 23rd of February, 2026.

If the number of nominations is less than the number of vacancies, a notice to that effect calling for further nominations will be posted at the school front office door and communicated via Compass.

How can I nominate?

You can nominate through completing a nomination form and returning it to the school office by 4pm on the 23rd February, 2026. Nomination forms have been shared via a Compass Notification.

What do you need to do to stand for election?

Parent members are required to hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) to nominate for a position on school council. The only exception to this requirement is parents who are also teachers and currently hold a valid VIT registration.

How do I get a Working with Children Check, and does it cost money?

You can apply for a Working with Children Check (WWCC) through the Services Victoria website. School council members are volunteers, which means that applying for a WWCC is free.

When applying for a WWCC, parents must:

  • Nominate the Department of Education as the organisation they are working for when applying for a Working with Children Check.

  • Provide evidence of their Working with Children Check as soon as practicable after receiving it (or via the school council nomination form).

New Crossing Assistant

We are pleased to welcome Amanda to our school community as our new School Crossing Assistant on Yarra Road.

Amanda will be supporting our students and families each day by ensuring everyone can arrive at and leave school safely. The role of Crossing Assistant is an incredibly important one, helping to create a safe and orderly environment around our school during busy drop-off and pick-up times on Yarra Road.

Please join us in giving Amanda a warm welcome when you see her at the crossing. We are grateful to have her supporting the safety and wellbeing of our community and look forward to working together throughout the year.

Free Resources for Families of Adolescents Aged 10 to 14 Years.

The Department of Education has launched an "Easing into Adolescence" webpage for families of students aged 10 to 14 (Grade 5 to Year 8).

The webpage has information and strategies you can use to help ease your child into adolescence and secondary school. These include:

  • A guide to emotion coaching. Staff from The University of Melbourne’s Tuning in to Teens Kids program developed the guidance.

  • How to support your adolescent with their studies and more generally. Parenting expert and clinical psychologist, Andrew Fuller, helped develop this resource.

Subtitles for videos by The University of Melbourne on the webpage are available in 10 languages. You can select your preferred language on the translations page.

For questions about these resources, contact the Strategic Partnerships, Transitions and Student Voice team. You can email them at Secondary.School.Transition@education.vic.gov.au
