FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome to 2026

As we begin another exciting year at Inverell High School, I would like to warmly welcome all of our students and families back to what promises to be a year of growth, opportunity and excellence. As I shared with students in our recent assembly, there is something powerful about beginnings. A new year offers a reset — a chance to decide who we are going to be, how we are going to act, and what we are going to stand for.

This year, we are challenging our students to be “greedy” — not for attention or popularity — but to be greedy for improvement, knowledge and opportunity. Growth does not happen by accident. It happens when young people choose effort, discipline and personal responsibility.

The Role of Soft Skills in Success

While academic achievement remains important, success at school is also built on what we often call the “soft skills” — the habits and dispositions that underpin learning. We ask for your partnership in reinforcing these at home.

Students are far more likely to thrive when they:

* Arrive at school organised and prepared for the day ahead

* Bring the correct equipment to every lesson

* Keep track of homework and assessment schedules

* Take responsibility for meeting deadlines

* Seek help early when they are unsure

These habits build independence, resilience and confidence. They also send a powerful message — that learning matters.

Pride in Uniform and Team Mentality

We also ask for your support in ensuring students wear their uniform with pride. Uniform is not simply about compliance; it reflects belonging. When students present well, they demonstrate respect for themselves, their peers and our community.

We want our students to be proud, passionate and part of a team. A strong team culture is built when every member understands that their behaviour, effort and attitude contribute to the whole.

Our Shared Responsibility

As emphasised in our opening assembly, personal responsibility is central to growth. Teachers will guide. Parents will support. Friends will encourage. But ultimately, students must choose their attitude and effort each day.

Student success is strongest when it is built on a positive partnership between students, staff and parents. When expectations are aligned at school and at home, young people flourish.

Communication and Support

We value open communication with families. If you wish to speak with a member of staff, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment so that we can ensure the appropriate person is available.

Due to the tight timetabling schedules of teaching staff, please understand that responses to general enquiries may take up to 48 hours. We appreciate your patience and support in allowing staff to balance their teaching responsibilities with communication.

2026 is full of opportunity — academically, culturally and in sport. If our students commit to being organised, disciplined and respectful; if they ignore trivial distractions and focus on growth; and if we continue to work together as a united community, this will be a year of integrity, pride and excellence.

Thank you for your continued support of Inverell High School. We look forward to partnering with you to ensure every student does their personal best this year.

Let’s make it a year of growth.
