Year 5 & 6 staff would like to extend a very warm welcome to both existing and new families as the 2026 school year begins. We are excited to work in partnership with students and parents/carers as children settle into their new Grade 4 classes.  New rooms, new faces and plenty of new learning ahead!

We’ve already been busy embracing the whole school focus on creating classrooms that are safe, welcoming and positive places to learn. Our goal is for every student to feel happy, confident and ready to learn each day. Clear routines and shared expectations help children feel settled and supported…and help classrooms run smoothly too!

Year 5 & 6 teachers

Year 4 Report

Wellbeing

During Wellbeing sessions, students are revisiting our school values and learning what it means to be Ready to Learn. They are practising classroom routines, behaviour expectations and positive ways to work together. These daily activities help students feel included and part of their classroom community. You might like to ask your child to show you or explain how their classroom calm corner is used. They are already becoming experts!

English

In English, students are getting organised for the year and learning what is expected during reading and writing time. They are exploring different types of books, practising independent reading, and learning how teachers will model and support writing. Many routines are familiar, with a few new expectations added as students continue to grow as confident readers and writers.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students are building positive maths habits through games, problem-solving activities and class discussions. They are encouraged to explain their thinking, try new strategies and work together. Sometimes discovering there’s more than one way to solve a problem! Clear routines help students feel confident and ready to give maths a go.

A highlight of the Flying Start period will be the Celebration Day in Week 3, on Friday 13 February. On this day, students will rotate through three fun activities:

  • A sports activity
  • A We All Belong activity
  • A Meet the Teachers session

We are thrilled to begin another year of learning, growing and having fun together in Year 4!
