Resource Centre

The Resource Centre participated in the Presentation Sisters Sesquicentenary,150 years since their foundation in Wagga Wagga, 29th May 1874-29th May 2024, with a display of print material covering their journey from Kildare to Wagga. These items document the journey here, the people involved in assisting them, the building of their Convent and the amazing work they have undertaken over their many years in advancing education throughout Australia as well as supporting many areas of need throughout their communities.

National Sorry Day (26th May) and National Reconciliation Week (27th May-3rd June) were also reflected upon with a display of books by first nations authors highlighting the meaning of Sorry Day and the long 60,000-year history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In 2004, the collection of 461 Sorry Books, then held by AIATSIS was inscribed on the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register in recognition of their historical and social significance.

Many more new books have been put on display and on the shelves for students to borrow across a wide range of genres. There are so many wonderful new titles for students to stock up on to enjoy reading over the upcoming holidays. This is an especially great time of year to read a book during the cold winter months.

Another round of reminders to return overdue books will be sent to students and parents to avoid having to pay replacement costs for non-returned items. Thank you to parents and students who support the Resource Centre by ensuring borrowed items are returned in a timely manner.

I believe we have an obligation to read for pleasure, in private and in public places. If we read for pleasure, if others see us reading, then we learn, we exercise our imaginations. We show others that reading is a good thing. Neil Gaiman (Author of short fiction, novels, comic books, graphic novels, audio theatre, and screenplays).
