Prayer

The escape to Egypt after Jesus was born Mathew 2:13-23

A Prayer Shared by Presentation Sr Susan Miller

in the context of Refugee Day 20th June...

Loving God,

We entrust to you all those who have left their homelands in search of a place of safety and hope.

In caring for our sisters and brothers, may we strive to live in a world where no person is forced to leave their home and where all can live in freedom, dignity and peace.

Wake us from the slumber of indifference, open our eyes to their suffering, and free us from the insensitivity born of worldly comfort and self-centredness.

May we share with them the blessings we have received from your hand, and recognise that together, as one human family, we are all migrants, journeying in hope to you, our true home, where every tear will be

wiped away, where we will be at peace and safe in your embrace.

Amen.

In line with W.H.O. in this year's theme, "Solidarity with Refugees" we can reflect on what Laudato Si (Pope Francis) calls us to do in relation to “cry of the poor”. Let me share with you some of the content we covered during our staff formation day on 7th of June in this activity’s questions:

Valuing the inherent dignity of each member of our community

Seeing in each other a brother or sister; a fellow pilgrim in this life.

Appreciating the gift of each person from the least to the greatest is a theme that seems to lie at the heart of Laudato Si. We can look at the idea of the Throw Away Culture and consider:

  1. What does this look like?
  2. Where in our work at KCC, is the great opportunity to create a culture of cherishing and valuing the dignity of the human person?
